CIC Cyber Education Initiatives
Minimize

Cyber Day - Informal education initiatives can be a very powerful tool in getting students interested in science, technology, engineering and math.  It can also be an effective way to demonstrate how cyberspace also ties into the "soft" sciences or humanities.  The CIC has partnered with Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) and Louisiana Tech University (La Tech) to develop Cyber Days - an outreach program that brings cyberspace to K-8 graders.  Cyber Day offers “hands-on” demonstrations that use cyberspace to get students excited about technology and the world around them. This program has being piloted at local elementary and middle schools.

Cyber Discover Camp -  Thirty 9th grades, representing five high schools, from north Louisiana will be participating in this pilot program.  This in-resident camp will use a dynamic and stimulating learning environment to focus on the technical and social implications of cyberspace. Cyber Discovery Camp will also have professional development aspects as ten teachers (representing both the hard sciences and humanities) will also attend and participate. Louisiana Tech University is a partner in this pilot program.

Cyber Security Curriculum – The CIC is working with its partners at Rome Catholic School to offer the Cyber Security curriculum (developed in collaboration with Air Force Research Lab) through video teleconferencing at piloted high schools in our area. Tentative plans include a cyber curriculum being offered in the spring of the 2008—2009 school year.

CIC Partners with CyberWATCH - CyberWATCH is an ATE Regional Center for Security and includes a consortium of 18 institutions of higher education. They have successfully developed new degree programs, student development programs and professional / faculty development programs. The CIC has partnered with CyberWATCH to leverage their expertise and assist in implementing similar programs in our region.
