Tourism Overview

Tourism is a growing industry for Shreveport-Bossier City because of the many and diverse regional attractions, including professional minor league sports (baseball, arena football and ice hockey), riverboat casinos, nationally reputed thoroughbred racing at Louisiana Downs, cultural events, and an abundance of year round outdoor recreational activities. In the last 10 years over $800 million of redevelopment has occurred on the riverfronts of Shreveport and Bossier. The metropolitan area of Shreveport-Bossier City offers more than 30 malls and shopping centers, a large selection of specialty shops and factory outlet stores, and numerous night clubs that feature a variety of music and live entertainment.

The Shreveport Regional Arts Council has been a leader in stimulating regional arts and music for over 25 years. Shreveport is capitalizing on renewed cultural interest in the Louisiana Hayride whose home was Shreveport ‘s Municipal Auditorium, the original country music venue before Nashville. Because of the growing tourist industry, Shreveport/Bossier City has a large number and variety of restaurants that feature delectable cuisines such as Cajun/Creole, French, Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Thai, Polynesian, and Indian. Many restaurants feature a variety of Louisiana signature foods such as crawfish, shrimp, oysters, Atchafalaya catfish, seafoods from the Gulf of Mexico, and, of course, Cajun specialties of all types.
